Bononia Estate Winery & Resort
Bononia Estate Winery & Resort is a luxurious boutique complex located on the banks of the Danube River in the village of Koshava, Vidin region.
Situated 250 km from Sofia and just 15 km from Vidin and the Danube Bridge 2, the resort offers quick and easy access to and from Romania. The hotel building is surrounded by some of the most fertile lands in Bulgaria, ideal for vineyard cultivation.
Opened in 2022, the winery was built on a restored 1895 cellar created by the region’s oldest winemakers in Koshava, Vidin. Inspired by the beauty of the region, the current owners, the Yotov family, established new vineyards and revitalized the historic winery.
The winery is named after the ancient Roman fortress Bononia on the Danube River, preserving the spirit and history of three centuries – the 19th, 20th, and 21st.
Together with the cellar and 1,600 decares of vineyards, Bononia Estate Winery & Resort is designed to become one of the premier wine destinations in Eastern Europe.
The complex has been nominated for “Building of the Year” and has won awards for “Best Hotel Complex with a Winery” and “Best Restaurant with Signature Cuisine.”
In 2013, the first 400 decares of vineyards were planted. Today, the vineyards cover approximately 1,700 decares, benefiting from one of Bulgaria’s most fertile and distinctive terroirs for viticulture.
The vineyard’s diverse varietal composition includes predominantly white grapes: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Vratsa Misket, Dimyat, Viognier, Muscat Ottonel, Vermentino, and Pinot Gris. Red varieties include Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the regional Bulgarian Gamza.
The wines of Bononia Estate are distinguished by their varietal character, purity, elegance, and refined taste and aroma. They have won medals at numerous international competitions and are celebrated on the global wine scene.
The winery offers several wine series: “Gomotartzi,” “Istar,” “Ooh La La,” “Bononia Estate,” and the limited “First Vintage” series, designed for collectors.
Guests can enjoy wine tastings with a choice of three packages, differing in the number and class of wines. Each tasting begins with a guided tour of the cellar and continues in the enoteca—a stunning venue from 1895 overlooking the exquisite barrel room.
Each tasting includes a charcuterie board, homemade toasted bread, water, and note-taking materials. The winery features three different barrel rooms and a unique hall with six designer wine vessels, one-of-a-kind in the world.
Through investments in its vineyards, state-of-the-art equipment, and hotel complex, Bononia Estate has closed its production cycle, ensuring high-quality, controlled, and reliable offerings for its customers and partners over the long term.
The resort offers 22 hotel rooms, each with its own character, equipped with premium materials, complimentary amenities, and services. Many rooms feature terraces with breathtaking views.
Restaurant Bononia Estate is modern and cozy, featuring two terraces with views of the garden and river. Guests can book wine tasting packages and tours of the winery, paired with artisan charcuterie boards and culinary delights.
Additional amenities include an outdoor pool, a wellness center with a classic sauna, steam bath, herbal sauna, infrared seating, and massage services.
The resort also boasts a unique conference hall with a capacity for 100 guests, a large terrace, and stunning views of the Danube River and the special wine room featuring golden vessels.
