Tundzha State Hunting Area
Located in the heart of Thrace, the State Hunting Area Tundzha spans an area of approximately 22,000 hectares.
The territory of the reserve encompasses three municipalities in Yambol Province: Yambol, Tundzha, and Straldzha. The forest massif borders the Tundzha River, one of the longest rivers in Bulgaria.
The terrain of the area can be described as flat to hilly, with some regions characterized by broad slopes and rounded ridges. Elevations range from 100 meters to 515 meters in the Bakadzhitsi Hills.
The predominant tree species in the forest include black pine, downy oak, Hungarian oak, and Turkey oak. Other notable species are Euro-American poplars, acacia, gleditsia, plane trees, and red oak.
The natural vegetation of the region is dominated by floodplain forests composed of summer oak, field ash, Turkey oak, white elm, poplars, and willows. The area is also renowned for its endemic species, the shimmering tulip, found exclusively here.
The State Hunting Area Tundzha offers diverse hunting opportunities for various game species. Key species include fallow deer, roe deer, wild boar, jackal, and fox. The Kolkhi pheasant is a particularly exotic bird that attracts the attention of ornithologists and enthusiasts alike.
The area is home to several protected zones, including the Gorna Topchiya Reserve, which preserves jungle-like floodplain forests, and the Koriya Protected Zone, which safeguards natural ash and elm forests.
The hunting lodge at Tundzha provides luxurious accommodations. Guests can take advantage of specialized transport, experienced guides, and trained hunting dogs to enhance their hunting experience.
In addition to hunting, visitors can enjoy various attractions in the area, such as exploring the ancient Thracian settlement of Kabyle, visiting historical and ethnographic museums, or savoring traditional local dishes, rakias, and wines.
