Palamara State Hunting Area

The State Hunting Area Palamara is one of the first two hunting reserves established in Bulgaria in 1932 during the reign of Tsar Boris III, serving as his royal hunting grounds.

Located in Ludogorie, the heart of Northeastern Bulgaria, it spans an area of approximately 18,000 hectares. The terrain is hilly and flat, with an average elevation of up to 350 meters. The region is characterized by pure and mixed deciduous forests. The reserve is about 130 km from Varna and 430 km from Sofia.

Since its inception, Palamara has upheld its traditions and remains the most elite hunting area for red deer in Bulgaria. The large number of big game animals is a result of the abundant and suitable food sources.

Palamara serves as the main breeding base for red deer in the country. Every year, trophy-quality stags and hinds are relocated to other hunting areas in Bulgaria.

Annual harvests include red deer trophies weighing between 8 and 12 kg, wild boar tusks measuring 14 to 25 cm, and roe deer trophies weighing between 250 and 450 grams. Selective hunts for red deer stags, hinds, and calves are successfully conducted. Drives for wild boar and predator hunts for jackals, foxes, and wildcats are also organized. Among the top trophies harvested are: Red deer: 12.650 kg, scored at 229.19 CIC points, Red deer: 12.030 kg, scored at 235.78 CIC points.

The hunting area accommodates its guests in two lodges: the Palamara Hunting Residence and the Nikola Kozlevo Hunting Lodge. Visitors are offered a selection of classic and local delicacies, accompanied by excellent white and red wines.

In addition to hunting tourism, the reserve organizes visits to tourist and cultural sites in the regions of Shumen, Madara, Veliki Preslav, and Pliska.
