Nessebar State Hunting Area

The State Hunting Area Nessebar is located in the easternmost part of the Balkan Mountains—Emine Balkan. It covers the territories of the municipalities of Pomorie, Nessebar, and part of Ruen.

The hunting reserve is named after the Black Sea coastal town of Nessebar.

The distance to Sofia is approximately 400 km, with the nearest airports located in Burgas (40 km) and Varna (80 km). It spans an area of 21,500 hectares, with an elevation ranging from 0 to about 450 meters. The terrain consists of steep, rugged ravines and flat ridges.

The hunting area of Nessebar covers 24,391 hectares. The main game species include red deer (Cervus elaphus), fallow deer (Dama dama), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), mouflon (Ovis musimon), wild boar (Sus scrofa), woodcock (Scolopax rusticola), and quail (Coturnix coturnix).

Among the best trophies harvested in the reserve are a red deer scoring 247.68 CIC points and a wild boar scoring 128.60 CIC points.

The reserve hosts guests annually from Bulgaria and abroad, attracted by its beautiful beaches and exceptional hunting experiences.

The Nessebar Hunting Area offers accommodations at the Gorsta Baraka Hunting Lodge, featuring six rooms and one apartment, as well as hunting shelters at Koru Cheshma and Kozluka. The administrative building in Nessebar provides eight rooms and two apartments. The reserve also offers its guests an extensive collection of natural and trophy exhibits.

In addition to hunting experiences, the reserve offers tourist routes to the seaside resort Sunny Beach, Sveti Vlas, the historic town of Nessebar, and Emine Balkan. Other activities include photo safaris, eco-tourism, jeep safaris, and cycling tours. The State Hunting Area Nessebar is also home to the final stage of the European Walking Route E3.
