Bolata Beach
Bolata Beach is part of a small bay with a harbor, located near the village of Balgarevo, north of Kaliakra.
The beach strip is very small—about 300 meters long. Bolata contrasts strongly with the rocky shores of the Kaliakra area, as it is the only beach with a sandy strip between Kavarna and Shabla.
The Black Sea coastline in this area is calm and beautiful, and the water in the bay is clear, shallow, and warm with a sandy bottom.
Bolata Beach is supervised and offers umbrellas, sunbeds, a free zone, and bars. It is suitable for families.
The protected nature, natural beauty, and clear water make Bolata a great place for diving and underwater photography. Its proximity to a military base limited access for a long time, which has further helped preserve it from human activity.
The bay is flanked on both sides by rocky massifs with caves carved into them. Remains of an ancient settlement and evidence of life from around 400 BC have been found there.
A Maltese cross has also been discovered, which indicates active trade between the Second Bulgarian Empire and Venice and Genoa. Other findings include stone circles, sacrificial stones, and rock dwellings.
In 2018, the bay became part of the protected area Stepite. Before that, it was part of the Kaliakra reserve. In 2019, the crescent-shaped bay was named one of the 20 most beautiful beaches in Europe.
The area is a wetland of great importance for several rare plant and animal species. It is also part of Via Pontica, one of the main migration routes for migratory birds.
Access to the beach by car is convenient.
