Dikchan State Hunting Area

Located in the southwestern Rhodope Mountains, the State Hunting Area Dikchan stands out as a true treasure for hunting and nature enthusiasts.

Established in 1913, Dikchan is situated in the valley of the Mesta River, near the Dospat Reservoir. Its territory spans over 20,000 hectares, offering a unique hunting experience at elevations ranging from 450 to 1750 meters.

With its hilly and mountainous terrain, marked by gently sloping ridges and deep ravines, the area provides an ideal environment for various game species. Forests cover 95% of the territory, dominated by coniferous trees, creating excellent conditions for mouflons, which can achieve trophy lengths exceeding 80 cm. The area is also home to populations of red deer, fallow deer, and wild boar, as well as an impressive number of capercaillies hunted annually.

The southern exposure, mild Mediterranean climate, and proximity to the Dospat Reservoir create optimal conditions for the primary game species: red deer, fallow deer, mouflon, wild boar, roe deer, and capercaillie—all known for their outstanding trophy quality.

Guests at Dikchan are accommodated in two hunting lodges, each with nine double rooms and excellent service. Each room features a private bathroom. The lodges are located in the scenic Old Dikchan area, providing comfort and coziness after a day filled with hunting adventures.

The Dikchan Hunting Area is an ideal destination for hunting enthusiasts year-round, offering a variety of hunting opportunities—from individual hunts for mouflon, fallow deer, and red deer to group hunts for wild boar and predators. In spring, capercaillie hunting is particularly popular, while summer is dedicated to individual roe deer hunts.

Dikchan is not only for hunters. The area also offers attractive routes for photo safaris and eco-tourism, as well as ethnographic tourism with visits to cultural and historical landmarks, including the architectural reserve villages of Dolen and Kovachevitsa. Excursions to the mineral springs in Ognyanovo village and the picturesque Trigrad Gorge add extra charm to the experience.

With its stunning landscapes, diverse game species, and rich cultural program, the State Hunting Area Dikchan offers something for everyone, making it the perfect destination for those seeking an authentic and memorable experience.
