Rayna Knyaginya House-Museum
The birthplace of Rayna Knyaginya is a cultural monument of national significance.
According to an inscription preserved on one of the beams, the house was built in 1673, and its first owners were Taso and Miho. Architecturally, it is a typical representative of the Srednogorie type of asymmetrical house.
It was in this house, on January 18, 1856, that Rayna Popgeorgieva Futekova – Rayna Knyaginya, the future standard-bearer of the April Uprising – was born.
The house-museum opened its doors to its first visitors in 1950 and underwent major restoration between 1979 and 1981.
The biographical exhibition presents the life and role of Rayna Knyaginya during the April Uprising.
Visitors can also explore an ethnographic exhibition that represents the environment in which the immortal Bulgarian was born and raised.
Among the invaluable relics in the museum is a replica of the main flag of the Panagyurishte rebels, which Rayna Knyaginya reproduced herself for the first official celebration of the April Uprising.
In the courtyard of the house-museum is a marble sculpture of Rayna Knyaginya, beneath which her remains are preserved.
In honor of the 150th anniversary of Rayna Knyaginya’s birth and the 130th anniversary of the April Uprising, a monument was erected in Panagyurishte. The funds for it were entirely provided by donations from local residents.
