Boyana Waterfall

Boyana Waterfall is part of the Boyana River and is the most impressive and highest waterfall in the Vitosha mountain range.

It is located between the Boyana district of Sofia (about 5 km from its center) and Momina Skala hut, with water falling from a height of about 25 meters. The sound of the falling water was famously described by Ivan Vazov as the “voice of nature.”

“This waterfall seems to be coming not from the peak of Vitosha but from some celestial heights, bringing with it the rays of the sky and the sound of their storms.” This is how Ivan Vazov described Boyana Waterfall in his travelogue “The Waterfall.”

There are three hiking trails leading to the waterfall, and depending on the pace, it takes between 1 and 2 hours to reach.

It is accessible year-round, and in winter, it is a popular spot for ice climbing. On clear and nice days, the waterfall can be seen from the National Palace of Culture in the center of Sofia.
